St. Martha's Food Pantry serves over 300 families in
need a month. Making it through the month with food is a
great hardship for many families in our area. Their
ministry makes a difference to them.
It also serves as
a place to acknowledge the impoverishment in other areas
of their lives. Oftentimes, the elderly have special
dietary concerns. Toiletries, cleaning items, diapers
are not covered by food stamps. The Pantry many times is
able to supply these needs.
Also, the food pantry recognizes the desire of these
families to celebrate holidays and special occasions.
St. Martha's Pantry offers them special holiday foods
(i.e. turkeys, ham, etc.). |
"If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no
food for the day and one says to them, 'Go in peace,
keep warm, eat well,' but you do not give them the
necessities of the body, what good is it? So also, faith
of itself, if it does not have works, is dead"
James 2: 15-17
Not only does St. Martin de Porres
Clothing Ministry provide an outlet for people to give
of their wealth and excess, they provide a place for
those in need to get clothing. Offering a clean and safe
environment for free clothing to refugees, families with
single moms, and the homeless brings esteem to them. St.
Martin's hard working volunteers are also given another
opportunity to live Gospel values. |
